[South Bank]

Looking through the 92 clubs, in the last 2 decades over a quarter of them have moved out of their traditional homes, into new purpose built or temporary stadiums, so hopefully this list will help to make sure that their memories arent forgotten, if you can add something please do, especially if its Scottish or non-league grounds, where my knowledge becomes a bit limited.

All dates are when the club stopped playing at the ground.

A * next to a grounds name, denotes that it still exists in some form, be it as it was in its final game, or only parts of it still exist, ie. overgrown terraces, etc.

Grounds in Italic indicate that the site of a ground hasnt been lost, but that the ground itself no longer exists after being rebuilt in one go, as opposed to constantly redeveloped, ie. Wembley.

Airdrie left Broomfield and moved to Clyde's home, Broadwood for a couple of years, before moving back to Airdrie at New Broomfield in 1998 -

It was originally abandoned by Park Avenue in 1974, although parts of it still exist I think with the adjacent cricket ground still going.

If anyone knows of a picture site then that would be great, as I cant come up with any (theres got to be one somewhere!)

I'm just going from the Leitch book, which says the club dropped out of the league in 1970, with them (as you say) disbanding four years later in 1974. Contrary to that though, it says Bradford Corporation bought the ground in 1974 for Bradford Bulls to play at, with them subsequently refusing. The other dates that Inglis has are the Leitch Stands being pulled down in 1980, and the cricket pavillion being built on half of the site in 1986. As I thought though, the terraces and perimeter walls still exist.

Your date does sound more accurate, do you have a source for it?

although I think we may both be correct - April 1973 is the date Bradford PA stopped playing there, and the 73/74 season they used Valley Parade - disbanding after the one season at VP

however perhaps the ground stood empty for a while (PA sold it to a property compamy) with some use other than football post April '73?

That does sound pretty concise, so I'll go with the '73 date, as opposed to anything else. Although I think it might help if a star is put next to the grounds that still exist in some form or another, ie. Cathkin Park, Feethams, etc.

Hi Homer, I did consider putting Wembley in, perhaps Cardiff Arms Park and Hampden as well. I know technically they dont fit in, but they are of similar interest. Along the same lines I was wondering about Dean Court as well, as by the 92 clubs rule then that is a 'new' ground as well.

I think theres a difference between redeveloped grounds, and grounds that have been raised to the ground and rebuilt in the way Wembley and Cardiff Arms Park were (although of course the North Stand still exists from then), for that reason after reading a bit into Hampden's history, I wasnt going to include that, because its been redeveloped in stages with old and new standing next to each other, like with most grounds today. I know theres probably an argument for both including, and not including them, but its a thin line, and the other thread started by Chrisredditch for totally redeveloped grounds is probably more suitable as Bloomfield Road hasnt been lost as such, not in the way Wembley has been anyway.

Yeah, if a ground is rebuilt with a rotated pitch then it counts as a new one, and needs revisiting for the 92. It should apply to Fratton Park if those plans ever go ahead.

Cheers for all of them, the first Old Meadowbank picture, is that actually it, or the New Meadowbank?

Also, Beresford Park, I've put 1926 for that date. On Ayr's official site they havn't got a date for first team football stopping, but they played there up until then, so that seems the most fitting.

Dont know if you remember this thread, but it gives a date of 1900 for St Bernards moving out of Logie Green.

Just want to be sure I've understood you correctly.

Are you saying (as I think you are) that Fratton Park is to be regarded as a new stadium only when all FOUR sides have been redeveloped? As I'm sure you already know the current plans apply to three sides only. I don't think there are any definite plans yet to replace the fourth (South) stand.

My vague understanding is something like this: Pompey might one day increase the overall capacity up to 36,000 if the club continue to do well, but whether this would involve replacing the South Stand or simply adding an extra tier to it I don't know.

If the latter, the ground could never really be regarded as completely redeveloped and therefore strictly speaking would not need revisiting ...

Its not me saying it, thats just one of the 92 Club rules (I dont make them!), but if a pitch is rotated 90 degrees, then it counts as a new ground, I dont think it matters if all four sides are rebuilt or what. Of course you could argue about Molineux, where the pitch has been moved a good 30-40 yards Eastwards from where it was prior to the early 90s, or just grounds that have been totally redeveloped are no less a new ground than Fratton Park will be, but like I say, I'm not the one making the rules, thats just what it says.
