How about a top twenty of the best club names in British league soccer, ie the ones you just happen to like the sound of most?

Here's my list, in no particular order:

Accrington Stanley
Crewe Alexandra
Hamilton Academical
West Bromwich Albion
Nottingham Forest
Plymouth Argyle
Blackburn Rovers
Aston Villa
Queen of the South
Wolverhamton Wanderers
Inverness Caledonian Thistle
Manchester United
Bolton Wanderers
Sheffield Wednesday
Brighton and Hove Albion
Queens Park Rangers
Preston North End
Partick Thistle

and finally, Tottenham Hotspur (but then I may be a tad biased) unsure.gif

This thread was about Football team names
Its not about medical conditions you have caught on a Friday night on the town.

And when you have caught the condition, then you can have a dose of SALTS (there really is a team called that!)

I once went to Ely City and on the wall of the club was a league table for their Sunday side and bottom of the league was a club with the name simply N.A.F.D.

On enquiring I was told it stood for "Not Another F***ing Defeat" (true story)

one name that really interests me is TNS, a couple of years ago they were sponsered by Total Network Solutions, I think the chairman was the owner of TNS, he pulled out of the club, therefore the sponser was lost....owww not what TNS obviously wanted to keep there name, so TNS stood, but changing the words to The New Saints.....interesting! mmmmmm

I think it was actually that Total Network Solutions, the company, were bought by BT. I'm fairly sure that the ownership of the club remained unchanged. I seem to remember that (after checking that BT's cheque had cleared) he did open an auction to see if a new company wanted to acquire the naming rights to the club. However no-one offered anything that approached his reserve price, so a new meaning for the existing acronym was invented.

I quite like Lex XI, from Wrexham, who appear to be named after a bingo call.
